Bruce W. Miller

I

Abstraction through improvisation is the underlying philosophy for my creative process. I think its important to create with spontaneous compositions~not re-create from old ideas. I focus on full use of the right brain during the creative process leaving aside as best as possible any left-brain interference and thinking, creating truly other worldly pieces. It is as much a philosophical lifestyle as it is a process for creating art; an acceptance of infinity and an appreciation for life without thought. It is also one of the most ancient forms of artistic expression, one that has manifested itself across the ages. Each piece springs from my awakened meditative state characterized by directness, unselfconsciousness, and nonaggression.

Vision

Move people out of their comfort zone and complacency by stimulating their imagination and spirit beyond their desire of recognizable imagery and form, helping them be in the NOW to  experience pure vibrant color  energy bombarding their bodies and spirit unlocking their imaginations as they start to create their very own visual stories.

My creative inspiration and philosophy

I enthusiastically embrace the blank canvas, approaching each piece with an open mind and heart. With no preconceived notions or intentions, the creative process is free-flowing and full of excitement. The result is artwork that bursts with energy and enthusiasm, speaking volumes about the artist's passion and joy.

Every trickle, brush stroke, splatter, spray or drip is derived from beyond my emotional state, tapping the universal melody. The pieces transform a space and each one is the keystone of a distinct and enveloping atmosphere.

The images provide a vehicle to appreciate the unseen nature of things as they are and express it without any struggle or desire to define it. I create to capture an elusive instant of universal beauty; beauty that lies hidden in each moment. Reflecting this moment and being true to improvisation takes risk, a risk that keeps me open to infinite possibilities. I act as a conduit to bring the splendor, awe and unpredictable transformation of each sacred moment onto canvas, approaching each piece as an improvised musical mantra, endowing the art with a melodic quality and rhythm to viewers. The colorful and diverse textural surfaces of the mixed media I employ form distinct vectors of visual space that appear as ordered forms from the chaos of endless universal potential. I have developed an improvisational technique for the spontaneous yet paradoxically deliberate application of a wide array of textures, unique paints, and raw pigments. This allows abstract forms and images to emerge and morph in the imagination; leaving the viewer amused and uplifted! My works are an ongoing investigation into the art of meditation and the concepts of first thought- best thought principals for creating.

Inspired by the explosive creativity and experimental art of the 60’s, Bruce studied music and fine arts at the University of Colorado, Boulder. After graduation, Bruce began a film company and led artistic forums in Boulder with renowned dancers, painters and artists. His intention was to transcend traditional boundaries between the disciplines, seeking to nurture new and innovative collaborations. At the same time, these artistic jam sessions gave Bruce the opportunity to display his own unique, experimental films, visuals and music to an adventurous audience.

While raising a family, Bruce channeled his creative energy into the corporate realm and pioneered cutting edge internet technologies as a consultant with fortune 500 corporations and ad agencies, heading multiple creative teams on the forefront of innovation. As a project of passion, Bruce co-founded WorldPuja.org, the first global prayer and meditation website. With new technology for streaming video and audio, WorldPuja hosted live, worldwide, prayers for world peace in collaboration with spiritual leaders from Deepak Chopra to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The peace meditations, with thousands of participants, were so successful that WorldPuja was contacted by Princeton Universities’ Global Consciousness Project (www.noosphere.princeton.edu). According to the study, which seeks to measure changes in global consciousness and energy, there were recurring energy surges in conjunction with each meditation.

During this period, influenced and encouraged by the effect of intention and energy on consciousness, Bruce built a music studio and spent years experimenting with the power of music and visuals in live sessions throughout New York and the Northeast. His endeavors culminated with his improvisational musical album Painted Symphonies, so named because of the colors of Indian Raga tonalities corresponding with the Chakras of the body. Painted Symphonies was received enthusiastically by yoga practitioners, healers, and massage therapists from around the country, and furthered Bruce’s confidence in the virtues of improvisational art. Over the past several years Bruce has employed the power of abstract improvisational techniques to painting, creating symphonies of visceral color on canvas.
